Question

  1. When I have a SIM set to a monthly limit of 15 MB and it suspends upon reaching this limit, and I then increase the limit to 16 MB, does the SIM now have:

    1. An additional 1 MB of usage available (total 16 MB), or

    2. A fresh 16 MB added on top of the previously used 15 MB (totaling 31 MB)

  2. After adjusting the limit, does the “Usage for period” on the dashboard show:

    1. Only the usage from when the new limit was set (16 MB), or

    2. The cumulative total for the entire month (31 MB)?

Answer

When you increase the SIM’s data limit, the SIM’s usage period resets. This means that if your SIM reaches its original 15 MB limit and you then raise this limit to 16 MB, it doesn’t just add an extra 1 MB to the existing month. Instead, it starts a completely new usage period of 16 MB from the moment you adjust the limit.

That’s why you would see a total usage of 31 Mb for e.g., April: the SIM used the initial 15 MB during the first usage period, and after you increased the limit, it had a new period allowing an additional 16 MB.

The key distinction is between:

  • Monthly usage (calendar month, e.g., April total),

  • Usage period (the 30-day window starting from each time the limit is adjusted).
