My device disconnects randomly and frequently, despite stable data sessions

Devices can drop network connections due to LTE-M-only configurations and short data session lifetimes.

Environment

  • Device: Queclink GL320MG

  • Cellular technologies:

    • LTE-M

    • NB-IoT

    • 2G

  • Device configuration settings: LTE-M (no fallback)

  • Onomondo app:

    • Signaling Logs

    • Traffic Monitor

Issue

  • Device sends data but then disconnects unexpectedly and often.

  • In Traffic Monitor, frequent transactions are visible, followed by a sudden stop.

  • In Signaling Logs, the device re-registers after disconnecting, but does not remain registered between data sessions.

Solution

Update device configuration to ensure more stable connectivity:

  1. Enable automatic fallback to available radio access technologies (2G, NB-IoT) in addition to LTE-M.

  2. Extend data session timeout to approximately five minutes to allow heartbeats to reuse an active session.

Cause

The device is currently restricted to LTE-M and closes data sessions too quickly. Without fallback options and a longer session duration, the device must re-register frequently, causing instability and data interruptions - especially in areas with marginal LTE-M coverage.
