Yes. You can deactivate and re-activate the SIM in the Onomondo app. Do so at your own risk.

Environment

  • Onomondo app: SIMs

  • SIM type: applicable to all

  • Device type: applicable to all

Question

  • Is there a manual way to force a SIM card to re-authenticate with the carrier?

  • Can I force trigger a new connection from the Onomondo app?

Answer

Yes. You can deactivate and re-activate the SIM in the Onomondo app.

  1. Find the SIM in the app.

  2. Go to individual SIM page.

  3. Click twice on the activation toggle in the left-side panel.

  4. Check Signaling Logs to see if cancelLocation request was processed.

โš ๏ธ If the device is currently powered on and attempting connections:

  • Wait no more than a few seconds to re-activate the SIM.

  • Do so at your own risk.

  • Do so only if absolutely necessary.

Deactivating SIMs while device is powered on can lead to issues with FPLMN.

Cause

Connections are managed by the cellular modem, not the SIM.

When SIM is deactivated, Onomondo sends a cancelLocation request to the operator, asking the RAN to erase subscriber credentials from its local memory.

Once the operator responds, the UE should be able to establish a "fresh" network registration.
