SIM is not detected by the radio module

Environment

  • Device: applicable to all

  • SIM type: plastic SIM

Issue

  • SIM is not detected by the radio module.

  • My device cannot see the SIM once inserted.

Solution

These steps can help you verify whether the problem lies with the SIM or the device:

  1. Check SIM status with AT+CPIN? (or any proprietary commands, e.g. AT%XSIM on Nordic Semi modules). The expected response: READY.

  2. In case of failure, remove the SIM and clean the pins in the SIM slot.

  3. Place the SIM back in the module.

  4. Repeat step 1.

If it still fails, place the SIM in a different module or a mobile phone. If the problem persists - the SIM is most likely damaged and must be replaced.
