What are Tags?
Tags make it possible to group resources such as SIMs, Network Lists, and Connectors by giving them unique, easily identifiable indicators. Tags provide you with a clear overview of your resources, dividing your fleet into specific projects and serve as the best way to quickly find associated entities. You could, for instance, tag SIMs with the name of the location your devices are deployed in, or including a short description of what kind of devices they are attached to.
This feature is easy to set up on the Management Platform and gives you the freedom to customize your fleet in a way that suits your IoT set up.
Since Tags let you segment your SIMs among different groups, they provide additional benefits of:
Customized, Tag-specific usage reports.
Restricted user access for Members, limited to selected Tags.
Control over editing rights for specific resources.
Setting up a Tag
Let's start by setting a basic Tag.
Head over to the Tags tab in the Onomondo app. Here, click on "+ New tag" button in the top right corner.
βGive the Tag a unique name and colour label. For easy identification, this can be, for example:
your customer's name, fx. "ACME_Corp",
specific batch of devices, fx. "Fleet_2025",
specific use case, fx. "GPS_trackers".
Choose users to assign the Tag to. Decide whether the Tag should be:
limited to specific Member-level users, or
available to all.
Choose resources to be paired with the Tag:
SIMs,
Network Lists,
Webhooks,
Connectors.
Select whether Write access should be enabled or disabled. We will discuss what this option implies further down in the guide.
Once you have done all of the above, you can click on "Save changes" in the top right corner.
You can always edit the Tag later in the Tags tab or via the API.
What will a user be able to when a user is assigned to a Tag?
Through access control, Owners and Admins have the possibility to invite Members into their organization. Those can then be restricted to only have access to resources marked with a given Tag. This makes it easier to invite other stakeholders, including hardware suppliers, clients or subcontractors, to access the platform without exposing your entire fleet.
β
Within the Tag, you can choose to either enable or disable the Write access functionality.
Enabled write access allows the user to edit and add resources associated to the Tag.
Disabled write access limits the users will be able to view SIM and usage information, but they will not be allowed to change or add anything.

What's next?
Once you have created the Tag, you can bulk add a Tag to SIMs and/or use the Tag for user access control.
